Community Advisory Panel (CAP)

Continental Cement formed a Community Advisory Panel in 2000.  This group of 24 local citizens meets with plant people four times a year to discuss plant operations and plant changes.  This provides a two-way conversation for the plant with the community.  Continental Cement formed this group in the spirit of the Responsible Care Program and the Community Right-to-Know concepts.

American Heart Association

Heart Walk

For the eighth year, Continental Cement is the Presenting Sponsor for the Heart Walk to aid the American Heart Association.   

Plant Tours

In addition to the plant tours given for auditing reasons, Continental Cement maintains an open door policy.  Any group that wants a tour of the plant is invited.  Because of the interesting quarries and manufacturing process, Continental Cement gives tours to over 2500 people each year to school groups and adult groups.

 School Visitations

Continental Cement supplies speakers to speak at schools and various clubs on the science and engineering of the plant.   Employees also volunteer in Junior Achievement.   This is a very active program.

Oil Program

Three or four times a year Continental Cement allows the noncommercial public to bring used oil for disposal.  This is endorsed by the Missouri Department of Natural Resources.  Call for future dates.

 Hometown Heroes - Be a Hero

Blood Drives with the American Red Cross

Each year Continental Cement has two blood drives at the plant to assist the American Red Cross.  Workers are given time off work to donate blood.  Participating employees are rewarded for giving blood.  

Environmental Day

Each year Continental Cement presents at the Environmental Day at the Lake sponsored by the Army Corps of Engineers.  Continental Cement also helps defray the cost of the event by contributing to the cost of the rented tents.

 

History Day

Continental Cement sponsors the Regional History Day event that is held at Hannibal-LaGrange College.  Prize money is given to each first, second, and third place finishers in all fourteen categories.

UW Logo

United Way

Continental Cement participates in the United Way Program.  Employees can donate to the United Way through payroll deductions.  Continental Cement participates in the United Way Day of Caring by allowing employees to work at various projects that the United Way sees as a need.  Continental Cement rewards employees who participates

Artificial Soil Project

Continental Cement accepts yard waste from approved area communities to be used in the Artificial Soil Program. 



Teachers, Industry, and the Environment

Each year Continental Cement sponsors teachers to attend the Teachers, Industry and the Environment.  The Department of Natural Resources, Central Missouri State University, and the Chemistry Council of Missouri jointly sponsor this event.  Continental Cement has sponsored four teachers each year to attend.

AED to the Rural Fire Department

Continental Cement donated an Automatic External Defibrillator (AED) to the Rural Fire Department.  Continental also provides facilities for training activities.

Emergency Mobile Unit

Continental Cement donated an Emergency Mobile Unit to the city of Hannibal to be used in case of a hazardous spill. 

Local Emergency Planning Commission LEPC

Continental Cement supports and provides facilities for the area emergency planning leaders in the joint Marion/Ralls County LEPC.

Ilasco Contribution

Continental Cement helped the former citizens of Ilasco erect several monuments to remember Ilasco’s heritage.  Ilasco was the city where the early workers of Continental Cement lived.  The community no longer exists.

Flag at Lover’s Leap

Continental Cement donated, installed and maintains the large U. S. flag on top of Lover’s Leap in memory of 9-11 and the community members who have served to protect us.

Continental Cement participates in the Relay for Life to assist the American Cancer Society.

 

Business Expo Chamber of Commerce

Continental Cement is a member of the Hannibal Area Chamber of Commerce and maintains a presence at the Business Expo held annually.  At the Business Expo Continental Cement displays the plant operations and answers question the public asks.   

Kids in Motion

Continental donates all used ink cartridges it the Kids in Motion program.

 

 

Hannibal Arts Council

Each year, Continental Cement supports the Hannibal Arts Council through donations and participation in the annual fund raising dinner.

Advertising

Although Continental Cement does not sell directly to the public, Continental Cement advertises on local news outlets as a form of communicating plant activities and food community stewardship to the public.  Continental Cement also sponsors the Kids Who Care Program.
